Amex offers two Platinum cards: Personal and Business. We’ve covered the Personal card in previous posts and now we’re looking at the Business card because of the generous 130,000 MR sign-up bonus offered until October 14 2025. Here’s the referral link that gets you the full 130,000 points, read below for the details. Always double check before registering on the Amex site, since benefits and offers may change.
Who’s It For?
A common misconception about the Business card is that it’s difficult to get and requires having a registered business. NOT True. You can apply for the card as a Sole Trader, in which case everything you need to provide is the name under which you operate, which defaults to your name. Your personal credit score and circumstances are then used to decide eligibility, which is similar to the personal Platinum card.
Long story short, if you’re eligible for the personal Plat, you’ll likely be accepted for the Business one. You can even have both! See them below side by side.
You can also use the business card anywhere you can use the personal card. I haven’t noticed any restrictions from Amex.

Benefits
There are business-specific benefits, like 54 days to pay back to help with cash flow and cashback on Intuit. There’s also the benefit of a separate for business expenses. The card also comes with strong personal benefits.
First, you get the same lounge access perks that you get on the Personal Platinum card, including PriorityPass and Centurion lounges for you and the first supplemental card—yes, you can one Platinum supplemental card and 19! Gold cards. As far as I can tell from Amex’s reading material, the insurance benefit is also similar to what they offer on the Personal Platinum card.
Second, you get £200 Amex Travel credit every year. You can use on hotels, car hire or anything else Amex Travel offers at https://travel.americanexpress.co.uk/. Speaking of Amex Travel, the card gives you access to Fine Hotel and Resorts, just like the personal version.
Third, you get an extra 10,000 points every month you spend £10,000 or more. If you time your expenses right, that can mean 2 points/£, more generous than any other reward card. This is a business card-only perk.
Finally, the sign-up bonus is a whooping 130,000 points until October 14. There are no restrictions based on Amex cards you currently own. You can own the Personal Platinum (as I do) and still get the sign-up bonus on the Business Platinum. You will need to spend £12,000 in the first 3 months though to trigger the bonus.
Amex Offers are also available on the Business card and are similar to the personal card. Notably however, there is no Dining Benefit similar to the one on the personal card.
Bottom Line
The card offers significant value due to the generous sign-up bonus. Together with the spend required to trigger the bonus it adds up to 150,000 MR points, roughly valued at £1,500. With the travel credit, the value offered by the card is £1700 without even considering the insurance and business features. It’s probably hard to justify keeping the card if you also have a Personal Platinum long term unless it provides value specific to your business circumstances. Luckily, you’re not tied into a contract and Amex even offers a prorated refund if the card is canceled before the end of the membership year.
